Jacob Blanton, DVM

Dr Jake Blanton is originally from Gaffney, SC. He attended the University of South Carolina for undergraduate studies. During his time at USC, he started out as a kennel worker at a local animal hospital.

This is where he realized that he loved how many different things you get to see and do in veterinary medicine. He completed a graduate certificate from Kansas State University before attending veterinary school.

He attended veterinary school at Ross University, which is located on the island of St Kitts. He completed his clinical rotations at Auburn University.

After vet school, Dr Blanton knew that he wanted to live in the Carolinas. He found a home in Piedmont region and began practicing. Before coming to join the Animal Care Center of Salisbury, he was a mixed animal practitioner.

He now has relocated to South Rowan Animal Hospital. When Dr Blanton is not working, he enjoys grilling, traveling, homebrewing, and hanging out with his family. His family includes his wonderful wife (the other Dr Blanton), an English Bulldog, Diesel, and a Chihuahua, Carmelita.

Venessa Blanton, DVM

Dr. Venessa Blanton is a 2015 graduate from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts. Yes, she lived on an island in the Caribbean for 3 years! Her clinical year was completed at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Shortly after, she joined The Animal Care Center of Salisbury in 2015 and is now practicing at their South Rowan location.

Dr. Blanton grew up in Clearwater, Florida, surrounded by the beautiful gulf beaches. She graduated with a degree in Animal Sciences from The University of Florida in 2009. She married her Vet School sweetheart and together they have an English Bulldog and Chihuahua. When not in the clinic, she enjoys a good cup of coffee, cheering on the Gators, exploring their new state of North Carolina and venturing to visit all 50 United States with her husband.

Lorraine Pennea, DVM

Dr. Pennea obtained a BA in agriculture from the University of Florida and then went on to Veterinary school (also at UF) where she graduated with her DVM degree in 1997. She then continued her training by completing a one year small animal medicine and surgical internship in Hollywood Florida. She then moved to Charlotte, NC where she spent 14 yrs as a small animal practitioner as well as the medical director and internship director for first year veterinary doctors. In 2013, she moved to the coast of SC and worked at a 24 hr specialty care facility located in Mt. Pleasant.

Dr. Pennea joined our practice in early 2018 and practices at all three of our facilities. She has a special interest in emergency medicine and critical care as well as pediatric medicine. When not at work, she enjoys hiking, biking, and spending time with her family.

Nikki - Groomer, Veterinary Assistant, and Receptionist

Nikki currently lives in Lexington with her Husband, and their two cats (Peaches and Autumn), their two dogs (Isabella and Charlie) and their two turtles (Honey and Moon.)
Nikki has been a part of the Animal Care Center team since March of 2012 as a Veterinary Technician.

Over the years she has also evolved to fill in as a receptionist and groomer. Nikki obtained her certification as professional pet groomer and hygienist in 2012. She also had worked with many different groomers for over 8 eights prior to her certification as a groomer. She also received her Veterinary Assistant degree in 2012 from Penn Foster College. She looks forward to growing more with our extension in South Rowan.

Angela - Receptionist

Angela grew up in Concord and now lives in Gold Hill. She has worked as a part time receptionist for Salisbury Animal Hospital for several years. She is excited to now be part of the team at South Rowan Animal Hospital.

Angela and her husband have been married for over thirty years and have three grown children and two grandsons. They share their home with four dogs (Kylie, Cole, Boone, and Ellie) and five cats. (Brinkley, Black Baby, Geordi, Diesel, and Finn) While she loves all animals, Angela has a special fondness for those with special needs. She looks forward to meeting you and your fur baby.​

Emily - Receptionist

Emily joined the team at the Salisbury Animal Hospital in June of 2017, now working here at their new office in China Grove and works as a Receptionist. She has always had a love for animals.

She grew up here in beautiful North Carolina and has always called China Grove her home. She is happily married and has a spoiled Beagle named Ginger. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family, crafting and enjoying the outdoors kayaking and tubing.

Jacqueline - Receptionist

Jacqueline moved here from the Western New York area in 1995 and lives in Salisbury. She obtained a Business Management Bachelor Degree from S.U.N.Y at Fredonia NY. She has one son Joshua that lives in the Salisbury area. She shares her home with 3 dogs, Bentley, Dulce, and Oreo. She also has 2 cats Lucy and Madea, all of her pets are rescues of some sort.

She started with the Animal Care Center team in 1998 as a receptionist. 

She was excited when the team expanded in 2013 to open the West Innes Animal Hospital and has worked there when needed. She is now looking forward to new adventures at South Rowan Animal Hospital and meeting new clients and their pets in the China Grove area!

Sonia - Receptionist

Sonia joined the team in January as one of the receptionists and currently works on Saturday at our facility. She presently teaches during the week in China Grove and is pursuing a degree as a vet technician. She has always had a strong passion for all animals.​

Jessica - RVT (Registerd Veterinary Technician)

Jessica joined the team in December of 2017 after moving to North Carolina from southern Ohio. She graduated first in her class from the Vet Tech Institute at Bradford School in Columbus, Ohio where she received an AAS in Veterinary Technology. She passed the VTNE (Veterinary Technician National Examination) in 2012 and is a RVT with the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board as well as the Ohio Veterinary Medical Board.

When she's not at work she enjoys spending time with her husband and their four small dogs (Dottie, Waldo, Petrey, and Mimi) & their cat named Bella. Her interests outside of work are hiking, reading, and exploring the sites in North Carolina.

Magee - Veterinary Assistant & Kennel Staff

Magee is originally from Salisbury. She joined our team of Veterinary Assistants at our Salisbury Animal Hospital in March 2017 & has since transferred to our newly opened location, South Rowan Animal Hospital. She occasionally assist in the bathing & kennel areas.

Magee grew up in a more rural area of Salisbury. She helped her grandparents tend to ducks, geese, turkeys, chickens, goats, rabbits & even parakeets & cockatiels. She also cared for the family pets. However, her favorite childhood memories consist of playing with & loving on the animals. Years later its still all about the animals for Magee. She's passionate about her job & has her own family of furbabies including 4 Chihuahuas (Chopperz, Linda, Chlover, & Melody), and a cat named Assassin. When she isn't working or spending time with her own furbabies, she likes listening to music, writing, reading, watching movies, spending time with family & friends, taking pictures, & being outdoors visiting new places.

Alexis - Veterinary Assistant

Alexis is originally from Northwest Indiana and moved to Salisbury in May 2015 with her parents and brother. Alexis joined the Salisbury Animal Hospital team in June 2015 and has transferred to South Rowan Animal Hospital. She was a veterinary assistant for 3 years while in Indiana. She grew up in the country, showing animals in 4-H & raising a variety of pets such as dogs, cats, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, reptiles and goats. She volunteered for Reins of Life to be around horses more & help assist with the kids in her free time.

When Alexis isn't working she likes to spend time with her fur babies; she has two Siberian Huskies (Mya & Dakota) and one Aussie mix (KiKi), two Siamese cats (Bella & Java), and 3 fainting goats. She also likes to travel, go to races, attend concerts, sporting events and enjoy spending time with family and friends.
